    1. As we all know from the previous books Tom Ward is the seventh son of the seventh son which makes him an excellent Spook. A Spook is a person who fights the dark magical things using just the knowledge and wits - not a fair fight as you can imagine.Anyway, after the events of the last book Tom's life is in danger. His master always wanted him to become an apprentice to another Spook for a while and after some boneheaded action by Tom in the beginning of the book this idea became a matter of Tom' [...]

    2. 8/10The Spooks apprentice is shipped off to learn from another Spook in the Lake District and try to add another string to his bow in the form of defeating water witches. This means leaving the Spook and Alice but not to worry as there is plenty to go on with here. This book seemed to be somewhat of a turning point for the series; the writing style is the usual top notch standard and the plot is solid as ever but in this outing we get some series driven plot as supposed to a standalone type book. [...]

    3. OkayI think I've reached my saturation point on this series. As I started it I was favorably impressed and I suppose it is a good series. When I gave a 4 star to the first book and recommended it a friend here on (Coleen black rose I believerry if I mis-attributed that) noted that the problem she had was the Tom never seems to change. I can see what she means now.Tom is the Spook's apprentice (see book 1 for the explanation of what a "Spook" is) his Last apprentice. This apparently means not on [...]

    4. This is the fifth book in the Spook's Apprentice series and it is just as fantastic as the previous books have been. I am impressed that these books have continued on with such great story telling over this series. In this book Tom Ward leaves Gregory to serve 6 months under a different spook; the new spook is harsh in his methods but endeavors to teach Tom more fighting to toughen him up. During the stay though Tom finds himself again being hunted by the Fiend and his children. Most notably Morw [...]

    6. I'm just so sad that this serie is ending so soonI'm already on the fifth book, and I am dreading that I am getting closer to the end T_T

    7. Long time fans of Joseph Delaney will be pleased at their perseverance. For the first time in the series, The Spook's Mistake actually brings in real conflict in the personalities and relationships of the characters. In the past I have lamented the lack of attention to character development, finding a sole focus on action instead, but Delaney has slowly (perhaps too slowly) built up tensions that finally seem to have come to a head. With The Spook's Mistake, Delaney has seemingly elevated his st [...]

    8. Holy. Cow. I read the entire series in just over a week and now I cannot wait for the next one to come out, because book 5 ends with a big ol' cliffhangerd as far as I can tell, no word on when book 6 comes out. Dang! Joseph Delaney is a very skilled author, and his level of horror is just right for me, the ultimate horror wimp. In this book, I came to really enjoy the character of Grimalkin, the witch assassin. The illustrations at the beginning of each chapter really add to the books, and they [...]

    9. "The difference between the word fiend and friend is merely one letter. I could easily be the latter. If you knew me better”"Oh Tom. This is a tough 6 months for him. As we continue the series, he is exposed to more witches and things that creep in the night. The boy can barely sleep or eat (always fasting), as each new battle comes as the fiend sets his sights on him.But now he is 14 and edging towards 15. It's good to read his growth and see the things he's learned. There was also growth in [...]

    10. Wardstone Chronicles Book 5*The Spook's Mistake*Wow! This is probably the best book ever in the Wardstone Chronicles. Its just so awesome, that I'll have to write a bigger review. So let's begin, the book cover is just awesome with Arkwright and his blood hounds with a misty green back round. It really sets up a terrifying atmosphere. Its the second time I read the book, the first time I didn't enjoy it but now it just has broken a food deal of records. It literally makes me happy and full of jo [...]

    11. Tom is now 14 and he starts a 6 month development period with a different Spook - a previous apprentice of Mr Gregory. The new Spook does things quite differently and works with different types of witches so Tom has a lot to learn. There are also some interesting character developments and it is all set up for book 6. I love this series - it is perfect for middle-grade audiences (or adults like me who enjoy these books!!)

    12. With many series, it's fairly easy to map the course of events for every book before even cracking the spine. You know the hero will follow her or his patterns from previous books. The books become almost formulaic. I thought I had figured out the formula to The Last Apprentice: Tom and his master would go someplace to rid the area of evil, Tom would allow either his emotions or his devotion to his master to get in his way, trouble would ensue, the Spook would be detained and Tom would have to f [...]

Water Witch-nya jauh bikin merinding, plus sukses bikin dag dig dug. Masih suka kesel dengan sikap Tom, bawaannya kadang mau jitak. Ingin tahu apa rahasia terbesar Alice? Silakan baca sendiri hahahahahaOia.a satu kalimat yang paling gue suka di buku ini, yaitu : Believe that you can [...]

    15. This book was amazing!!! It was very adventurous and intriguing. Joseph Delaney has such a neat way of writing and has a very unique mind to come up with all these cool books.

    16. Tom Ward is the seventh son of the seventh son which I've always like in the series but I've seen more in this book than the others is that are dear Tom doesn't change much in this book. At time he feels like he goes back a step or two and he forgets things he has previously learn in the other book, and the thing he hasn't - he COULD make a guess as to why a Spook would own/use/do the 'weird' things he does! Like seriously dude, you have been previously studying under ANOTHER Spook for more than [...]

    17. The fifth book in The Last Apprentice fantasy series. Now that the Fiend has been released into the world, the Spook sends Tom to his former apprentice for a sixth month period designed to "toughen him up." When Arkwight is captured by Bloodeye, a water witch who is also the daughter of the Fiend, Tom must risk everything he cares about and trust someone he has no reason to trust to save his friends, and himself. Fans of the series will be thrilled with this installment.

    18. “The difference between the word fiend and friend is merely one letter. I could easily be the latter. If you knew me better” In an undetermined time and place of old a young boy is on an intricate journey in becoming a spook. A spook is someone who goes around ridding the Country of all the darkness and evil plaguing the land and people who live in it. In the last book, The Last Apprentice: Attack of the Fiend, our hero, Thomas Ward, his friend, Alice, and master, John Gregory, failed to sto [...]

    19. *SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS**SPOILERS*1. A very brief highlight or summary of the book. Where did the story take place (setting)? Who are the main and minor characters in the book? In this story or stories, this is a boy named Tom Ward who is an apprentice of a spook and a spook is a person who supposed to defend the county from dangers like boggarts and witches. And this was [...]

    20. and for the first time i will do this "spoiler within" for many parts in the last apprentice books the fight between good and evil has been dealt with in many faces and through many persons some fights even were inside one person the good and evil inside yet it was also given the solution to it the very hard yet very simple one it's your choice you are the one who decides your own will and choices and mind no devil and no god you were given the full choice to live and to decide and to do and on [...]

    21. This series is consistently good, and I like the way it is developing, with a slow but sure feel about where it is going. This installment takes us outside the County for the first time, and it develops two new characters. Tom goes north for to study with Bill Arkwright for six months. Bill was also an apprentice to the Spook, and now is a spook in his own right in an area where there are lots of water monsters and witches. I liked Bill's character quite a bit. He tries to be a good mentor, but [...]

    22. I discovered Joseph Delaney's young adult dark fantasy/horror series The Last Apprentice this past summer. Over the last few months I've barreled through each installment of the series and have yet to be disappointed. Delaney gets better with every book, and the series' fifth novel, Wrath of the Bloodeye, is no exception.Bloodeye picks up where Attack of the Fiend leaves off. The witch clans have brought the Fiend (the "Devil himself") into the world and he's after Tom. In order to protect Tom f [...]

    23. Link to my blog: thatreadhead1.wordpress/2Definitely read this book more than twice as my GR says. Probably more towards 4 or 5 times XD This is just one of my favourite series, and for once I actually don't mind just picking up a random book in the series and giving it a read. Normally I can't do this, I constantly have to read in order, but this series just lets me and my brain doesn't have a freakout. I love this series so much :DTom is one of my favourite MCs. I love his honesty and his prac [...]

    24. Wow. Have I really read five books in this series just this year?! This is the series that I've been reading aloud to Luke (age 9). Tom Ward is the young -- almost 14 years old -- man apprenticed to the Spook. As such they fight the good fight against the Dark whether that's boggarts, skelts, witches, or other nasties. On a couple occasions my wife listened in a bit as I read some passages to Luke. She'd say that the story was a little too creepy or scary but Luke and I would just roll our eyes [...]

    25. Yet again, another installment in this series does not fail to impress with an intelligent, spooky story for a chillingly fun read. This particular story presents new manifestations of evil that are novel challenges, moving the setting into a swampy area and distinguishing water witches from the regular sorts, but yet fitting with the previous encounters. I'm normally not a fan of series books, especially seemingly unending series, but these books have some nice points to them including a unique [...]

    26. Wrath of the Bloodeye is the fifth book in Joseph Delaney’s very popular LAST APPRENTICE (or WARDSTONE CHRONICLES) series for middle graders. This book has also been released in other countries, such as those in the UK, under the title The Spook’s Mistake.Tom has been John Gregory’s apprentice for a couple of years now. In the last book, Attack of the Fiend, three witch clans worked together to summon the Fiend (the Devil). Now he roams the earth and would like to kill Tom because the rumo [...]

    27. Lots of action, lots of fun, a change of scenery and decent character development. I've been looking forward to seeing Tom mature. He has to leave the Spook in order to do further physical training and toughen up. A nice addition.
